Trip to Shravanabelagola… Date 21st March 22, 2008
Its was early 3 am chilly morning..., when I got up, called up Murali and Dhwani (my friends) to get up… Those were lazy bumps J. Well Dhwani is big lazy so her soon-to be husband got my phone. By 4 am I was ready and driver also came, and hence my journey started. Murali was waiting for me at the Marathahalli Bridge and we went ahead. Then we took Dhwani and Bhavik, who took lot of time to get into the car. Not because they were fat, but bcoz they took lot of time (girls oh! my God, they are just time eaters). Then we picked Sachin and started moving ahead. It was very cool breeze out in Bangalore early morning and we had refreshing start. The driver Ajay was nice but too fast guy. He drives well.
Ya, people in the car were feeling lazy but Sachin and I were talking – talking like anything…thus keeping driver a good company (I guess). Also songs were going good in the car. There was a bummer at the NH-48, which connects to Pune as well. There was a huge traffic jam.
After couple of hours i.e. by 9 am, we reached a place which was driver’s home town, we had tea / coffee and also pressure release. Sachin was bit naughtier; he grabbed my photo while I was doing. Sachin dude, I will take the revenge. J
Next we had first stop at Shravanabelagola. We went to a temple named Gometeshwar temple. I tell you people, it was a paradise. There we saw beautiful sculptures, and most importantly, there was staircases (steep) around 500-600 in number. We climbed some of them, but we were mostly on the steep rock climbing it. It was fun. We almost stopped 5-6 times while climbing. Then we saw Shri Gometeshwar temple. There were lots of Gujus and not to forget Dhwani and Bhavik too are Gujus. I was yelling in some good Guju accent… Su Chalu Shee.. and to my astonishment few aunties say that I was good.
Then we saw a mammoth statue of Shree Gometeshwar ji. It was very tall.
We all bowed our heads and prayed for good future. Then we went to a cave size way in which different disciples of Shree Gometeshwar ji. To my astonishment, all have the surname as Shinkara. Then we had lots of photo shoots (which we popularly call as orkutting) and as I described its a heaven. It was a lovely place. We were on huge mountains and looking deep down with awesome natural view. There was one more temple with staircases, but we thought to skip it. We were dancing fondling on large mountains, taking pictures from different angles. It was lovely experience and to be remembered always. Then we started coming / climbing down. We were not coming from regular staircases, but climbing down the mountains. It was such an experience of trekking.
Then we looked a girl (woman), who looks quiet similar and hot, the one we met while I was in CDAC, Pune. She got nice figure ;-)
Then finally we came down and had coconut water. Sachin again got fooled and spent more on it.
From there we started our journey again to Belur temple. It was also a nice temple. The things we find about those temples was that, it was ruined and statues were stolen / destroyed by attackers. That was bad, but we can’t change history. Whatever was left it was eye catching.
There were made with such fine details and were looking too breath taking. The amount of effort and hard – work sculptors put was un-imaginable. There we also saw a pillar, which was standing without any support and amount of science and architecture they have thought at 1117 AD was remarkable. It was centuries old and standing in spite of lots of environment changes. Ya, it was heavy and need no support. We crossed checked it and it was not attached to ground by cement, but just been balanced independently. It was surronded by different temples. It was written that those temples were made by a king who was follower of the Lord Vishnu. We also took some pics there and followed the guide, he was telling about the place, about the . It was an example of fine art. All the work was done on stones (mountain stones) and carved a beautiful piece out of it. Then we also saw a pond, where we could see fishes and tortoises. It was around 1 pm and we were terribly hungry.
There I also tasted jack fruit. It was yellow colored sweet fruit with seed inside. This was my first time I tasted such a thing and it tasted really good. Then we asked Ajay, to take some good place for lunch. He took us to a Restaurant, which was ok looking and service was horrible. For a dish, the service made us wait for 15-20 minutes and one sort of loose out patience when you are very hungry. Well, I don’t like waiting on eating table and neither of us. So we maintained our calm as respectable human beings and waited for food. The food was just ok, though hot.
So after food around 2.10 pm we went to HalaBedu, it was such a nice one with gardens and well upkeep. The thing which separates it was, it has breath taking gardens together with lake. It was such a serene atmosphere, that one could stay there for ages. Sachin told me that it was a capital once upon a time. Well, we could see that some of the statues were missing / stolen from the temple. This was a common thing which we find out there. We were constantly nagging at those who did all this. Secondly, we saw that and came to know, while that place was attacked, some sculptors were making statues and wasn’t completed, hence they were also preserved for viewing, but the people who were making those, were killed there. I must appreciate the management, who still preserved those and maintained the beauty of that place with cleanliness and planting flowers.
Murali meanwhile was missing his camera a lot, told me several times, why he is not with his camera. I can understand his feelings. He is a great photographer, and only when he is with his camera. Meanwhile, he was enjoying my camera taking the photographs.
From there, were on our return journey, but wait, there is one more temple yet to come. It was Adi Chincha Nagri. It was newly built temple and looks great though. We were all very much tired till the end of the day, but the music in car was rocking, especially the Billo song (from Goal), in which me and Dhwani were dancing like hell, well she was a Billo (oh! I am sorry, a Billi… ) J
I don’t know, when I promised these guys for an ice-cream, but we had ice-cream session in between, when we were returning. Though, I enjoyed it as well.
While we were returning, we faced tremendous traffic jam at Bangalore border. It was same NH-48 highway, which sucks big time. We enjoyed a lot and had lots of fun. Photos are coming on its way. So keep looking… !!!!
